The Switching Yard Of The "New" JJJ&E

The Switching Yard of the  "New" JJJ&E was easy to design. This side of the layout is made up of three parts: The Diesel Service Yard located at the top end of the Switching Yard, the Switching Yard itself and the Turntable and 24 stall Roundhouse at the bottom of the Switching Yard. The Switching Yard is 18 feet long. The Turntable is 130 feet long and has 10 adjoining service tracks and two entry/exit tracks.

The Switching Yard of the "New" JJJ&E has a 50"x50" turnaround area. The 24 stall Roundhouse and 130 foot turntable sits in the turnaround area. The radii used in this turnaround area is 23-24". The bench work on the Switching Yard side of the layout is 30 inches wide. Backdrop buildings line the entire length of the Switching Yard with various industries. The double track mainline has several passing sidings on each side of the Switching Yard. There are two open staging tracks adjacent to the backdrop.

Thirty four switches/turnouts are in the switching yard and dwarf signals are programmed with each individual switch/turnout. There are 32  #6 switches/turnouts and two double crossovers in this 18 foot yard.

The double track mainline is controlled by double track signal bridges, single track Cantilever signal bridges and numerous 3/2 block signals and 2/2 block signals. All the block signals and signal bridges are controlled using Logic rail Technologies signal boards and photo cells embedded in the track roadbed. The Dwarf signals are controlled by NCE "Switch-Kat" stationary decoders.

Below are photo's of the Switching Yard side of the "New" JJJ&E:

A Busy Evening At the Switching Yard Of The "new" JJJ&E  (This is an early photo of this part of the layout after the switches were wired for DCC and dwarf signals)

It's always a busy evening at the Switching Yard on the "new" JJJ&E. There are 32 turnouts in the Switching Yard. Each turnout is controlled by a Dwarf signal. The "new" JJJ&E is run by DCC and all turnouts are controlled by a stationary decoder. Each dwarf signal is wired to an individual stationary decoder, in this case a NCE Switch-Kat.

This is a track side view in the middle of the Switching Yard. A five track diesel service area is located at the far end of the Switching Yard.
